New Leaf

Salaam.

My first post here. It's a new blog. I thought I deserved a new blog, since it's a new year (albeit it is already March) but still better late than never.

And - the main reason for this blog? This year I have made one of the most important decisions in a Muslim female's life.

To wear the Hijab - full time.

One of the things that I've thought about since deciding to wear the hijab is do I have to sacrifice my self identity by changing my outer appearance? Can I still be the same person and be seen as the same person I was before wearing the hijab full time.

I believe the answer is yes.. and no.

It's a yes because to your family and true friends, you will always be the person they've known before that piece of cloth became a permanent fixture on your head when you're out and about.

And I believe the answer is also a no because with the hijab on - you do - in a sense - become a new person. You've embraced your faith and taken that one extra step to becoming a better Muslim - insya'Allah. So essentially, you're not totally the same person you were when you had your glorious hair cascading down your back, shimmering in the sunlight and beguiling everyone who walked past. Alright - let's not get too dramatic.

But my point is - with the hijab on, you are trying to improve yourself so you can't completely be the same person you were without the hijab.

Confused yet?

I guess if you've gone through it, you'll probably understand a whole lot better. And if you haven't - just indulge me.

Another thing I thought about was - can I still dress nice even with the hijab on?

Right about now you're thinking whether or not I have the right intention in donning on the hijab but a girl can still look decent even with the hijab on, right? Now, trying to look good to get unsavoury attention from men who are not your 'mahram' is an entirely different story and not the one I'm trying to focus on right now.

I'm talking about dressing nicely for yourself (because you deserve to) or for your husband if you happened to be married. Which I am. :)

Then I thought - why not. As long as I observe the right Muslim/hijab style it should (and will) be OK.

So here goes this new blog. Dedicated to hijab or muslim chic fashion.
